Single Cylinder Overhead Cam (OHC) Engine Kit

Description

Sharing most of the moving parts with our single cylinder flathead and OHV engine models, this engine features a five gear train to spin the cam located in the head.  The mechanism is highly reminiscent of small Honda four strokes.  This configuration is generally able to spin much faster and run more efficiently than our flathead or OHV designs it has so much in common with. For engine enthusiasts, this model pairs well with our other single cylinder models to showcase engine evolution in the last 75 years.  For motorcycle enthusiasts, this engine is in a typical slanted motorcycle configuration and pair well with our V-Twin kit.  One of our more detailed kits, this includes nonfunctional Carb details.

Measuring about 12 by 9 inches, our OHC  engine has elements from many real engines.  A scissors style set of lifters both work off of a single cam.  It has our most detailed build manual, including a section on how four stoke engines work.  The manual is detailed enough to diagram where to spread the glue.  This is one of our easier kits to assemble, and we rate it at a “precocious 15 year old” skill level.  Please view the links below to check difficulty.

This engine features twin cams, a 2.5 inch bore, and a 2 inch stroke.  It has around 75 parts.  Expected construction time is around 1.5 to 7 hours.
