Designer

All the models offered on this site are original designs by Me – Don Morris.  I am an Aviation Technologies Professor at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. I have a BS in Physics Ed. and a Master’s in Aviation Ed.  I also have a variety of ratings from the FAA, including Certified Flight Instructor and Airframe and Powerplant mechanic with Inspection Authorization. I built my first running engine from scratch at the ripe old age of 18. Shortly after that, I began building musical instruments out of wood.  Then came airplanes. Along the way I taught myself CAD and rapid prototyping.  I have built my own CNC equipment, but mostly use a CO2 laser cutter.

I have a real passion for engines, and hope to build and fly behind engines of my own design some day. Until then, I have to content myself designing stylized versions out of plywood, which I use to demonstrate how engines work to my aviation students.  My engines are made flat so that they can hang on the wall and not take up too much space in my already cluttered office.
